Benefits for Military Spouses

The SpouseWorks Scholarship (MyCAA) Guide

The SpouseWorks Scholarship (formerly MyCAA) is a Department of Defense workforce development program designed to help military spouses build portable careers — without touching your GI Bill.

Financial Benefits

Up to $4,000 in lifetime tuition assistance is awarded to eligible spouses.

A maximum cap of $2,000 per fiscal year applies.

Direct payment — funds go straight to the participating school or institution, not the learner.

Expanded Eligibility

Open to all ranks: The Pentagon expanded the program to remove all previous rank and pay-grade limits. Your spouse can qualify regardless of your rank — junior enlisted, senior NCO, or officer.

Duty Status: You must be an active-duty service member, or a National Guard/Reserve component member serving under qualifying Title 10 orders.

Spouse Requirement: The spouse must have completed high school or obtained a GED, and must be enrolled in DEERS for automatic system verification.

Exclusions: Spouses who are legally separated, or spouses who are themselves active-duty service members on Title 10 orders, do not qualify. Spouses lose eligibility if the sponsor enters warning/alert, post-deployment, or transition/separation status.

What the Scholarship Covers

The program focuses strictly on portable career fields — like healthcare, IT, cybersecurity, or business administration — that allow spouses to keep working through frequent PCS moves.

Professional licenses and industry certifications.

Associate degrees.

Continuing education courses required to maintain an active professional credential or license.

Exclusions: Does not cover bachelor's degrees, graduate degrees, general studies certificates, books, housing, or retroactively started courses.

How Your Spouse Can Get Started

Your spouse must initiate the process before classes begin by following these steps:

01

Create an Account

Visit the official SpouseWorks Scholarship Portal to create a profile via myAuth/DS Logon, which will instantly verify DEERS eligibility.

02

Build a Plan

Your spouse must work with a SpouseWorks / SECO career coach to create an official Education and Training Plan (ETP) detailing their chosen career path and school.

03

Request Financial Assistance

Once the ETP is approved, your spouse can request financial assistance through the portal — up to 60 days before the course start date.
